One year on the island today!

A year full of light and beauty, endless sunrises and glowing sunsets; wild sea swimming and restful sauna; incredible food; good coffee; making new friends; serendipitous moments; joyful visits with family and friends; peace and headspace; and daily the reminder that nature gets first decision - about weather and plans and roads and life.

There’s also been hard work, broken things to be fixed, trying new things and finding my place.

Here’s to another year, and another and another. And to finding magic in this place, its people, and myself. ✨

The stages of adventure:

Restlessness, leading to gathering oneself and some belongings and heading out for a drive

Enthusiasm, upon the beauties of the drive and a successful arrival at the start of the trail

Amazement, in landing upon new places and viewing new views with pleasure

Confusion, in the landscape not quite perfectly matching the description of the walk

Perseverance, believing that keeping going will eventually bring one out SOMEwhere in the vicinity of the goal

Frustration, with bogs and lost paths and falling into holes and beginning to sense one may possibly be slightly lost

Annoyance at leaving the house at all

Stubbornness, in not turning round when it is becoming increasingly obvious there is no path

Resignation, upon finally recognising one has hiked for several hours in the wrong direction

Despair, upon turning round and becoming even more deeply entrenched or stuck in deep bogs

Hope, upon making it back to the original wrong turn

Relief upon discovering the correct way

Happiness at experiencing new views and the sun sparkling on the water and a beach to oneself

Recognition that the first attempt isn’t always perfect

Pride in actually getting out and trying something new, and not being cut off by the tide.

Reward, for triumphing over many obstacles. This is how adventures work, after all!

(Felt a little like bilbo today, not wanting to leave my armchair and in the end being glad I did.)

There is a very autumnal feel in the air.

Which is weird because it’s still quite warm (for us) - and as you all know my limit is down about 19C these days so when it gets to 22 or 26 it’s not my fave!

So having warm sunshine, even heat, along with leaves turning golden and brown, and red berries and mist in the mornings… is throwing me a bit I admit!

Global warming is doing some bizarre things.

On the positive side, I loooooove a misty morning and was out at 6am to walk in it . And maybe it’s time for all the pumpkin spice things!! 🎃✨
