Omw you guys I actually did it.

No, I didn’t pick a book cover design yet (still deciding; this is bloody hard)

But I DID, after eight solid months, take up my keyboard to write and send my weekly email, “Creative Headspace”.

I used to copy and paste the content of the email into social posts: I’m not doing that anymore.

The whole point of the email is, it’s special. It’s just for those on the list.

You’ll get my thoughts, wonderings, ideas… and first news on things like book cover designs and pre-launch bonuses and events and maybe even creative headspace retreats. 👀

Deep happy sigh.

Winter sauna tonight : the sky was dark and full of stars; the sea was cold and choppy and exhilarating; the sauna was warm and cosy and inviting; the company kind and welcoming.

And the head space.

I missed it so much. So many cities, hotels, conferences, events, travels: it was good, and also my head was constantly filled with the minutiae we don’t have to concern ourselves with at home.

Where and when to do laundry. How to find coffee first thing so I can do the things. Different beds. Different time zones and temperatures.

Here all that melds into the background and my head has space to think, to wonder, to breathe. Even to think of nothing at all.

I drive on dark quiet roads and pass one car in the space of a half hour. Deer wander across my path. An owl swoops from a nearby tree.

And now I’m home and cosy with hot milk and nutmeg and honey (highly recommended winter evening drink!) and all the things that felt so big or so heavy or so critical have faded a little so I can hear the universe shift and sing.

I dipped into another part of the sea than usual this morning - still beautiful, restful, refreshing, a little wild, and a mental reset.

But a lot warmer than I’m used to in Scotland, and with a finer sand. Bigger waves even on a quiet morning. (I got knocked over several times in a row!)

When I’m away from the sea im used to being in and around every day, i miss it more than i realise. Start getting a bit antsy and not sure why. So grateful to get to spend a little extra time with family this week - and grateful they live not far from the beach and the sea!!

Travels can be discombobulating. So I’m glad for a chance to recalibrate.

Here’s to the reset button and the way nature helps remind me that the sea just keeps coming in, keeps going out. Whether I’m there or not (but I loved that I got to be there this morning, rising with the sun.)

One year on the island today!

A year full of light and beauty, endless sunrises and glowing sunsets; wild sea swimming and restful sauna; incredible food; good coffee; making new friends; serendipitous moments; joyful visits with family and friends; peace and headspace; and daily the reminder that nature gets first decision - about weather and plans and roads and life.

There’s also been hard work, broken things to be fixed, trying new things and finding my place.

Here’s to another year, and another and another. And to finding magic in this place, its people, and myself. ✨
